Manifesto

  • At the moment we play a NLH Tournament
  • We don’t play bounties (yet)
  • We don’t play mixed games (yet)
  • We play hamburger stakes, if you want to play for big money stakes this isn’t your game.
  • We DO NOT rake the game or take any fees for running this game.
  • All money in is distributed back to players.
  • At this time we can support one table of 6 to 10ish players.  We do expect to grow over time.
  • This is a douchebag free game, no douchebag behavior will be tolerated,
  • New players must be sponsored by existing players on “the list” No strangers. Contact John or Dennis

Rules in General

The rule book we use is Robert’s Rules of Poker which is as close to an industry standard as there is in the often inconsistent world of Brick and Mortar Poker rule enforcement.

The house rules, which for the most part comply with Robert’s Rules, are as follows. Rather than being comprehensive, are derived from the most frequently raised questions and

issues of our little game.

DON’T SPLASH THE POT

There is no penalty, but players who repeatedly forget may also be forgotten in the next e-vite.

CARDS SPEAK

Everyone is ethically obligated to point out what the winning hand is if those involved in

the hand are unaware.

VERBAL ACTION IS BINDING

Whether in or out of turn, though intent or intervening action can overrule even this,

the host is the final arbiter of such an occurrence.

MINIMUM BET

Is the current big blind amount.

MINIMUM RAISE

Must match the previous bet or raise. Any “all-in” raise that isn’t legal, can only

be called by players who have already acted.

1 CHIP RULE

When faced with the blinds or a bet, putting out a single chip without a verbal announcement to “raise” is always a call.

MUCKED CARDS ARE DEAD

Pretty much without exception; the host may intervene if cards are retrievable and the mucking was done by a player other than the hand holder or clearly accidental.

NO RABBIT HUNTING

As a general policy.

ONE PLAYER TO A HAND

Especially in tournaments, especially with large pots.

NO STRING BETS

Will be enforced on players who know better, and on pots of any consequence. Otherwise, a warning will usually be the penalty.

A HAND CANNOT BE KILLED ONCE THERE HAS BEEN ACTION

There are hardly any exceptions to this – if a player calls or bets, the hand is live. If someone else looks down and realizes they have 3 cards, or only 1 card (and he’s not on the button) it is only HIS hand that is dead. Killing a hand entire and refunding everyone is only done in the most extreme of circumstances – a duplicate card in the deck (not a card from the other deck) or a psychotic break by a player who irreparably fouls the deck or other players hands, are the only two examples I can quickly come up with that would kill a hand altogether.

WHOOPS, I DIDN’T KNOW THERE WAS A RAISE

If a player only calls the original bet after a raise, he may take it back if he wasn’t aware there was a raise. The house may institute a temporary “all the money stays in the pot” rule, if this starts to happen frequently.

BLIND INCREASE CUTOFF

(That is, when can you still play the old level?)

If at least one blind level is posted before the chime OR the new dealer has picked up the deck before the chime then the previous blind level may be dealt.  Obviously if the host is at the table, there may be even more leeway regarding this.

HOW MUCH IS THAT?

The acting dealer must count the amount of a bet if requested by a player in the hand and it is their turn.

A player may ask for another players chip count-but the person asked is not obligated to count out how many chips he has in front of him.

That said, all players are entitled to an unobstructed view of their opponents chips and all players must keep all of their chips visible, especially higher denomination chips.

The acting dealer may not count the amount of chips in front of a player, only a bet.

Nor is the acting dealer allowed to count the amount in a pot; UNLESS the game being played is pot limit, then the acting dealer is obligated to count the pot if asked.

TOURNAMENTS: ALL IN AND A CALL – PLAYERS MUST TURN UP THEIR CARDS

No waiting until the river. Obviously if there is still a side pot being contested and action to come, all players should keep their cards hidden and protected – but when it’s time to show, everyone must.

CAN’T MAKE IT AFTER ALL? YOU MUST CONTACT ME

Life happens. But you must let me know if you have to cancel. Short of bleeding out on the street or a catastrophic family crisis, I expect a text message. Even if you text me 1 minute before the tournament is scheduled to start and cancel – you will stay in my good graces. An e-mail is also acceptable, though a bit less courteous. I do check them on my computer before we start.

If you totally space out and forget to call – that’s a bit of a bigger deal, but a heartfelt phone call and some sort of remorse will probably do just fine.

If you don’t call at all, even afterwards, it is policy to remove you from the evite. You can always call or e-mail later with an explanation, but until I hear from you, I have no incentive to bring a player back who doesn’t have the courtesy to fill me in on why they bailed and left me with an empty seat and dead stack to manage.

DISPUTE? THE HOST DECIDES

BE NICE OR DON’T COME BACK

We have low stakes and big fun.

Relax and don’t ruin the vibe for everyone,

if you do you won’t be coming back.

NO ANGLE SHOOTING

NO NEEDLING

NO DISCUSSING POLITICS

NO DISCUSSING RELIGION

NO JOKES YOU CAN’T TELL TO ALL ETHNICITIES

NO SUNGLASSES

NO TAKING A CALL AT THE TABLE

NO TEXTING WHILE IN A HAND

NO IPODS (AT ALL)

NO DRUNKS

NO TOBACCO INSIDE

NO WEED ANYWHERE

NO GRUMPY PEOPLE!

FEELING ANGRY IS OKAY, IT’S PART OF POKER – ACTING ANGRY IS THE FASTEST WAY TO GET PERMANENTLY BOOTED.

*******

Also, the host reserves the right to avoid confrontation and keep the peace by ceasing to invite any player for any reason for any length of time including permanently – without necessarily informing anyone of his decision.

Obviously serious breaches in normal human behavior will not be tolerated (drunkenness, implied or actual threats, physical violence, etc.) but a player may also not be invited back for much lesser reasons, including but not limited to a player exhibiting…

– Emotional outbursts.

– Frequently distracted behavior, especially texting all the time.

– Persistent inability to practice basic poker etiquette: excessive slow rolling, betting out of turn, tanking for far too long on far too many decisions, etc.  Taking excessive time on most decisions is a super quick way to get super-uninvited.

– Not showing up and not calling, texting or e-mailing.

Or it could even be as innocuous as…

– Simply not fitting in with the relaxed tone of the game that the house is aiming for.  If you are a high strung person who always has people walking on egg shells, that might be a problem.

– Saying or doing something that puts up a red flag in the houses mind.

– A simple personality conflict between a player and the rest of the group or maybe even just the house.

BOTTOM LINE; If we don’t invite you back it doesn’t mean you’re a bad person or anything like that.  Much like any relationship, it simply may just be time to end it.  And it very well might be the classic case of “it’s not you, it’s me.”
