One of my favorite bands, Perilous, has turned the Summer of 2025 into the Summer of Singles, releasing a fantastic new song once a month.  That means a new one is imminent and for me that’s like Christmas Rock N roll eve.   (You can pre-save that track here:  Glass Of Something by Perilous – DistroKid )

But before that let’s look back at the last two singles which are currently available everywhere.

“End of An Era” is a catchy piece of bittersweet rock n roll.  A look back at a city, a scene, a place, wherever that place was.  You know the place.  That place where you keep the fondest memories of your most carefree halcyon days.  Where the people who formed your sensibility were.  Where your soul was both at its most vulnerable and its most full.  But as time moved on, things change, people change, nothing stays the same and you don’t expect it to, but when you look back you remember those times like a glorious comet shooting through the night sky never to be seen again.

For those of us with rock n roll in our bloodstream sometimes It’s particularly bittersweet to look back because those highs, at least to us, were so damn high.  I guess we are the last of a dying breed but if that’s true, we are going out the way we came in, kicking and screaming and making one hell of a noise.

I love my old stories, but I was never one for too much nostalgia but “End of an Era” is that kick ass look back at the way it used to be and wasn’t it glorious?

“Revolution Calling” is the rock n roll anthem the current moment demands.  Not so much a political song as it is a wake-up call.  A direct call to action in the most punk rock tradition.  A song that doesn’t speak to the political, but rather to the apathy of all of us.  The song takes off like a freight train and doesn’t slow down.    Everything is a mess and what are you going to do about it?  What are you going to do to confront corruption and lies?  “Revolution Calling” is clarion call for revolution in the great tradition of The Clash, The Beatles, Rage Against the Machine and Bob Marley.

Rock n Roll has always been about revolution, Perilous is picking up the mantle that so many are seeming to leave behind.

Perilous has issued their challenge, are you ready?

And just a word or warning, maybe don’t listen in  the car, it may make you drive fast. I did.

Both singles are given huge energy by Bob Cat’s buzzsaw guitars, Renee’s thumping but lyrical bass (I think that’s her scream on the end of “Revolution Calling”, Paul’s punk rock drumming and Pauline’s vocals that for my ears is one of the best rock n roll voices around right now.    Looking forward to the next single.

All of Perilous’ recorded music can be found in the usual places. Perilous will be performing THIS Saturday with Duel and Borracho at Night Owls in Cortland. You should go. Early show. 6-9.
